A Chat on the Grass

Application Process

1 Information Request

By filling out the inquiry request form and submitting it on line or by mail, you will receive a complete packet of Dawson materials including an action CD-ROM on student life, viewbook, FAQ, application, and school profile. You may also call admissions at 303-665-6679 and ask for the packet.

2 Family Campus Visit

Every one in the family is welcome to come and take a personal tour of the campus, drop in on a class, explore the fantastic facilities, and learn about the Dawson approach to academics, student life, sports, the arts, and community service/leadership. It takes about an hour, and will give you a good idea of what a school looks like where excellence is the norm. Just call admissions to schedule a family campus visit. You do not have to file an info request first.

3 Student Application/Shadow Day

The application itself is self-explanatory and can be downloaded and mailed to us. Then, all applicants grades 1-9 are asked to shadow a current Dawson student for a day at school. The shadow day usually includes core academic classes, electives, one of the arts, sports, lunch, and an assessment.

Kindergarten applicants are invited to visit again in January or February, for a simulated class and a readiness assessment.

3 Student Application/Shadow Day

The first wave of notification for first-12th grade applicants is in early February. Thereafter, applicants are notified as soon as the applications are completed and reviewed.

First wave notification for kindergarten applicants is in early March.

Timetable

We accept applications one year before enrollment is anticipated. You may apply throughout the year, but the optimal time is in the fall term from September – December. Official notication for applicants in grades 5-12 who have completed the admissions process occurs in early February. Applicants in grades K-4 will be notified in March. Applicants whose files become complete after these initial notification times will be considered as space allows.
