Travis Aldrich
Boys Lacrosse

B.A. (American Civilization) Middlebury College, M.Ed (Curriculum & Instruction) Univ. of Vermont. Prior to teaching at Dawson, Travis taught in Massachusetts and Vermont where he also coached a variety of sports. He worked at Cheley Colorado Camps this summer where he served as a director of the oldest boys' unit. Travis will be coaching Middle School boys' soccer and basketball and Upper School varsity lacrosse at Dawson and is an active member of the Boulder Valley Lacrosse League. In his spare time, Travis enjoys fly-fishing, hiking, reading and all water sports.

Melissa Barker
Varsity Soccer

B.S. Middlebury College. Prior to teaching at Dawson, Melissa taught environmental science at the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies for three years and then made a move east to teach earth science and biology at the Indian Mountain School in Lakeville, CT. She also acted as the girls soccer coach and head ski coach, roles in which she continues at Dawson. In the summers she leads wilderness backpacking, canoeing, and rock climbing trips for Deer Hill Expeditions out of Mancos, CO. She is an avid biker and backcountry skier. She also enjoys playing soccer and ice hockey and is thrilled to be back exploring the Colorado outdoors.

Kate Corwin
Softball, Girls Tennis

B.S. (Civil Engineering) University of Virginia Prior to coming to Dawson, Kate spent three summers as a math teacher and director of student activities for the Summer Programs at Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford, CT. She was the assistant varsity softball at St. Anne's Belfield School in Charlottesville, VA and was the head coach of the University of Virginia Women's Club Softball team. Kate is an avid golfer and snowboarder and enjoys reading, hiking, and traveling.

Kris Deardorff
Cross Country

Bucknell University. Prior to coming to Dawson, Kris taught one year at Nature's Classroom, an Outdoor environmental education program in Connecticut, four years at Providence Day School in Charlotte, North Carolina, and most recently two years at The Key School in Annapolis, Maryland where she taught Chemistry and AP Chemistry. Kris has coached cross-country, track & field and soccer. She has spent numerous summers doing workshops including teaching a workshop at UNC Chapel Hill on Solar Astronomy, and leading/instructing outdoors trips. During her free time she enjoys running, hiking, white water/sea kayaking, reading, and spending time with her husband, son and two dogs.

Jeffrey Ellenbogen

B.A. (Economics) Brown University. Jeff has taught both high school and middle school math for the past five years. He began teaching at The Potomac School in Mclean, Virginia, where he taught lower school science. Jeff enjoys playing guitar, snowboarding, ceramics, volleyball and golf.

Arnold Lewis
Head Golf Coach

Head Baseball Coach. B.A. Spanish/ B.A. International Politics and Economics, Cum Laude, Middlebury College Most recently Arnold had been teaching Spanish in Tacoma, Washington at Charles Wright Academy where he also coached varsity soccer and varsity golf. For the past six summers Arnold has also led community service programs in Chile. Last summer 10 students and Arnold built a youth playground on a Mapuche Indigenous reservation, painted a mural at a homeless shelter, took the homeless kids to Pablo Neruda’s house, and built a soccer field in a small desert community. Arnold and the students also had the pleasure of snowboarding in four feet of fresh Andean snow.

Douglas London
Varsity Boys Soccer

B.A. Kenyon College, M.A. in English, University of Maryland, M.A. in School Administration Johns Hopkins University. Doug came to Dawson from the Bullis School in Maryland where he was Upper School Principal and coached a nationally ranked boys' varsity soccer program. Doug has worked with Educational Testing Service as a reader of A.P. English Exams and the S.A.T. and has been active with club soccer in Boulder. At Dawson he works with Town Council, as a senior class advisor, with Fusion the literary magazine, and as varsity boys' soccer coach.

Nathan Lord
Canoeing and Kayaking

B.A. (English, Classical Studies) Colgate Univ., M.A. (English), M.A.T. SUNY Binghamton. Nate enjoys camping, canoe racing, playing Irish music with The Boulder Irish Session Band and dancing with Maroon Bells Morris. To unify his vocation and avocation, Nate often sings, tells stories, and speaks in Middle English to his students. He coaches the canoe team, directs the Winterim program and the Junior Leadership program and Town Council. He has studied various martial arts over the years and holds a black belt in Washin-Ryu Karate Do.

Steve Sorenson
Head Basketball Coach

Steve was a 3-year varsity player at Golden High School, and attended Carleton College in Minnesota, where he earned a degree in mathematics and played varsity basketball. He coached at Redondo Beach High School as a varsity assistant and freshman coach. Mr. Sorenson lived for two years near Geneva, Switzerland where he played and coached a select team that toured Europe. In 1987, Steve moved back to Colorado to earn his teaching certificate while coaching at Littleton High School. He later held coaching positions at Highlands Ranch High School, Boulder High, and Broomfield High. He joins the Dawson staff as the head coach of the boys basketball program. Steve and wife Gunilla have 3 children; Carl (17), Evie (14) and Daniel (10).
