Athletics

In sixth through eighth grades, Dawson has a 100 percent participation policy and every player plays in one of his/her chosen 13-team sport opportunities.  In seventh and eighth grades, students are required to participate in athletics all three seasons. Fifth and sixth grade grade students take physical education, and sixth graders have the option of participating in some interscholastic sports.

Two varsity sports also have a Middle School presence on their rosters, creating a unique opportunity for cross-divisional athletic collaboration. Dawson also recognizes and supports athletes whose passions are found off-campus.

Taking a curriculum approach to athletics, Middle School teams practice during the school day, and competition takes place during the Monday-Friday school week.

Middle School student-athletes train and compete on some of the nicest facilities in Boulder County with four soccer fields, two lacrosse fields, two baseball diamonds, two gymnasiums, six tennis courts, a weight room, full time trainer, and cyclocross and cross country courses, all of which are often in demand and appreciated by off campus organizations, as well.

The School’s four virtues, or core values, of respect, compassion, courage, and integrity in addition to attitude, responsiveness, commitment, effort, fitness, and ability, are at the core of Dawson athletics.

As eighth graders look ahead to competing on Upper School teams, they do so knowing that they have the fundamental knowledge and skills to compete in the Mile High Conference and for any number of the state, regional and national championship teams that Dawson proudly supports.
