All middle school students (grades 6-8) have the opportunity to participate Dawson’s robust middle school co-curricular program - a highlight of the middle school experience! Co-curricular offerings, which include all sports, as well as a myriad of non-athletic options operate on a quarterly basis and run Monday-Friday for 8-9 weeks at a time. Each quarter students choose from 6-7 co-curricular options thoughtfully designed to fit the interests of all students.
Taking a curriculum approach, all co-curriculars take place during the school day. Athletic competitions and theater productions take place after school during the Monday-Friday school week.
 
Dawson boasts some of the nicest student facilities in Boulder County and the co-curricular program is fortunate to use them. With the assistance of a full-time athletic trainer, middle school student-athletes train and compete on four different soccer fields, two lacrosse fields, two baseball diamonds, two gymnasiums, six tennis courts, cyclocross and cross-country courses and a complete weight room, all of which are often in demand and appreciated by off campus organizations, as well.
 
Likewise, students participating in non-athletic co-curricular offerings are also take advantage of the outstanding indoor facilities, including a new state-of-the-art maker space, dedicated dance room, theater, top-notch art facilities, and the brand new innovation center.
 
The school’s four virtues, or core values, of respect, compassion, courage, and integrity are at the core of the Dawson middle school co-curricular program. Moreover, Dawson prides itself on an education-based approach to co-curriculars, embracing learning with a growth mindset and focusing first on the many life lessons that sports can teach.

As eighth graders look ahead to furthering their co-curricular interests for high school and competing on Upper School athletic teams, they do so knowing that they have the fundamental knowledge and foundational skills to navigate the next stage of their educational career.
