Day 1
Monday, March 18th. We spent the morning getting to know each other by participating in ensemble building and acting games. We set group norms and expectations to provide a safe space for exploration, risk-taking, and skill-building throughout the week. In preparation for our visit to the Arvada Center on Wednesday to see the groundbreaking musical Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812, we split into small groups and became experts on Leo Tolstoy's War and Peace. The Great Comet, written by composer/lyricist Dave Malloy, is a sung-through musical adaptation of a 70-page segment from the War and Peace novel. After lunch, we traveled to the Frequent Flyers Dance Studio in Boulder, where we learned about the art of aerial dance utilizing fabric.
