9-12 Winterim Experience

St. Louis

Day 2
The St. Louis Winterim had a full day at Washington University. We began with a historic walking tour with Sociology Professor Geoff Ward and Public Historian Kelly Allen, exploring the university’s connections with enslavement as well as the 1904 World’s Fair. For lunch, we ate at a student food court and had some free exploration time; we also got our hands on some materials in the university archives. From urban planning to the World’s Fair to the city’s connection to the Manhattan Project, we’re continuing to build our answer to the essential question: who is St. Louis? After some downtime at the hotel, we drove west into the suburbs, paying attention to differences in architecture, businesses, etc. Students ate dinner at a classic Italian restaurant, sampling the St. Louis staple of toasted ravioli. We’re looking forward to another great day ahead!
