Sailing the Sound

Day 2
We woke up to more gorgeous blue skies and clear, sparkling water! Breakfast was a hearty meal of biscuits and gravy. After breakfast, we rolled into some chores— washing dishes, swabbing the deck, and everyone’s favorite: cleaning the marine heads! After chores, we had a few maritime lessons, and some students even had the opportunity to steer the ship! We ate lunch—burrito bowls— and then it was time for the highlight of the day: challenge activities! Students got to sit in the bowsprit (the net at the front of the boat that hangs above the water), row the small rowboat, Ay-Ya-She, and even climb the rigging all the way up to the top of the main sheet! We were told that the top of the climb is 73 feet high! Don’t worry, everyone was safe and wore harnesses. Overall, it was an incredible day, and we can’t wait to see what is in store for us tomorrow.
