9-12 Winterim Experience

Boston

Day 3
The Boston College tour Winterim group today visited Emmanuel College in the Fenway neighborhood, a small liberal arts college of 1,800 undergrads. It is one of five colleges that share course opportunities, adjacent campuses, and about 12,000 undergraduate students. This college extended a warm welcome to us, offered a free application, responded to questions with adjustments to the tour, and marketed themselves as a great alternative in the heart of Boston. They offer access to their neighbors to supplement classwork and potential minors as well. It is a more accessible possibility than some of the better-known colleges that we have seen, and yet there’s a lot to offer there!

After a delicious lunch nearby, we had a tour of Fenway Park that was illuminating for us all, and later on students had time to explore the neighborhood on Newberry Street for dinner and shopping. We were joined by Dawson alums Sam and Elise Freedman, juniors at Northeastern. They offered some perspective on accessing that community through the normal application process and transfer process, respectively. Students were able to ask questions about how they find the university and Boston communities work for them and how it differs from Dawson. It was a good experience.

Tomorrow, we know that we will be having a later start and a visit to the University of Massachusetts Boston.
