7-8 Winterim Experience

Washington, D.C.

Day 4
We were back in D.C. for day four. We spent the morning at Arlington National Cemetery, where we visited notable graves, like those of JFK, RBG, and people known less simply by their full names. We were all in awe of the formality and theatricality of the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

After lunch, we toured the United States Holocaust Museum Memorial. Some of the adults in our group have visited upwards of ten times, and the memorial continues to be a profound experience. The visit was powerful for our group, and some students even doubled back after the tour to see if there was anything they missed.

During dinner, we were lucky enough to see the president’s motorcade drive by our restaurant! So, we trekked to the White House for a photo op. There were no sightings of the POTUS walking the dog, but security was on high alert, even with agents on the roof of the White House, for whatever event was occurring inside.

We ended the night with “Little Shop of Horrors” at Ford’s Theater. The show was the final flourish of a great day together.
