Sailing the Sound

Day 4
We woke up to blue skies today, a welcome change from yesterday’s clouds. For breakfast, we had baked oatmeal, jam, and orange slices. Yum! After breakfast, we launched into our morning routine: chores and raising the sails! We learned more sea shanties, some of which were so catchy that we heard them being sung all day :) After raising the sails, we went through some different rotations. Some of us were on deck helping with different tasks, some of us got to learn about engineering, and others participated in a fascinating plankton lesson! We even got to lower a net into the water to extract a plankton sample, which we got to view under a microscope— so cool! Lunch was scalloped potatoes and salad, which we scarfed down after a busy morning. We spent the afternoon finishing our rotations and rehearsing for the evening’s talent show! For dinner, we ate chili and homemade bread, which was delicious, and then we gathered in the main cabin for the talent show! Some of us danced, others performed a spoken word piece, and the crew members dazzled us with a shadow puppet show. Overall, it was a festive evening filled with laughter! We are sad to leave the boat tomorrow but excited to see our families and share our stories!
