A cat 2 road and cyclocross rider, Melissa Barker introduced her passion to the Dawson community as the founder and head coach of Boulder County’s only school sponsored cyclocross team, which got its start in 2010 and has producing podium finishes in the 12 to 18-year-old races ever since.

A competitive rider, Barker competed in the Cyclocross Masters World Championships in Louisville, Kent., in 2013, and rode to a runner-up finish in the master’s race.

Barker was hired at Dawson in 2003 as an Upper School science teacher and has been the school’s director of experiential education since 2005. She was Dawson’s head junior varsity, and assistant varsity soccer coach in the fall and head ski team coach and conditioning instructor in the winter. From 2005-08 she took the reigns of the varsity soccer team.

From 2001-03 at the Indian Mountain School in Lakeville, Conn., Barker coached the varsity girls soccer team and boys and girls ski teams.
