US Day at Dawson
-
7:45 AM
Arrival
US Faculty greet students during drop off each morning and know them well enough to ask, “How was your game/performance last night?”
-
8:00 AM
Science Lab
A great aspect of the rotating schedule is starting every day with a different class, which might be watching super worms run around in AP Biology or hands on lab work allowing for authentic academic exploration and problem solving.
-
8:55 AM
Math
Classes are enhanced with the use of technology, including Promethean Boards in math and iPads in ninth grade geometry and English, where students submit work electronically so that faculty can edit and grade right on the document and add voice comments.
-
9:45 AM
Break
Daily breaks rotate with the MUSTANG schedule and offer a mid-morning hiatus from academia. Daily rotations include Upper School meetings run by Town Council, advisory meetings, clubs, break time, or a chance to take advantage of office hours.
-
9:45 AM
Clubs
Twenty-plus club offerings provide students an opportunity to pursue a passion outside the classroom. Whether it’s political action, environmental awareness, robotics, speech and debate, guitar, or chess, student-motivated options are offered each semester.
-
12:00 PM
College Counseling
One-on-one college counseling…even on the way to lunch!
-
12:10 PM
Lunch
Even if your best friend isn’t in any of your classes, you can always have lunch together. With house-made lunches that include meat and vegetarian hot entrees, two soups, salad and deli bar, there’s a lunch for every palette.
-
12:50 PM
French
Whether you argue the ethics of free trade in AP history, discussing derivatives of inverse trigonometric functions, or conjugating verbs in French, with small classes, there’s no back row. Every student participates…every day.
-
1:45 PM
Jewelry Making/Enameling
Dawson students are risk-takers. With 16 different arts courses, they try new things. The Arts Center is a place where the varsity baseball player throws clay and the AP Calculus student creates a perfectly symmetrical jeweled ring.
-
3:00 PM
Office Hours
One-on-one time with faculty, before or after class, during breaks or even lunch, is set aside daily to make sure every student has time with his or her teachers for any lingering questions generated in class.
-
3:45 PM
After School
Upper School students must participate in two co-curricular activities per year. Students may participate in theater, our state championship speech and debate team, or one of 15 varsity sports including basketball, soccer, tennis, golf, baseball, and Boulder County’s only high school cyclocross and canoe and kayak teams.
-
7:00 PM
Theater Performance
Dawson theater productions are anything but your typical high school plays. A fall theater production, winter musical, and spring performance involve not only the actors on stage, but also a tech crew class that supports the show from auditions to final curtain.
