During this language and cultural exchange, Dawson students have the opportunity to experience China first hand. We will start in the modern capital of China, Beijing, where students will explore the dynamic collision between the ancient history and modern reality of this vibrant city. Then we will travel by bullet train southwest to Xi’an, where we will learn more about the ancient history of China and its lasting legacy. After this visit we will proceed southwest to Chongqing where the students will spend a week living with homestay families and attending classes at our sister school, Chongqing Yucai Secondary School. Finally, after saying farewell to our hosts and the warm climate, we will fly back to chilly Beijing before making our way back home to Colorado.
Dates for China Immersion 2020 will be Saturday, March 7-Tuesday, March 24.
Eligibility: Dawson sophomores, juniors, and seniors who are either studying Mandarin III or have already completed Mandarin III or higher. Dawson’s Language Immersion Program seeks motivated students who are in good academic standing and are socially and emotionally ready to spend almost three weeks abroad. This is a two-way exchange, so participating Dawson families (except for the families of graduating seniors) are expected to host a Chinese exchange student for about a week in Spring 2021 (dates TBD).
How to apply: Please make a copy of the Google Doc application at right and complete it. Then, please email your completed application to Matt Carter by September 20, 2019.
