Arts Education in Upper School

The arts at Dawson provide a creative atmosphere in which young artists can explore interests in depth and breadth. Formal training in the arts allows students to cultivate the discipline, technique, and skills necessary to express themselves. Because each of the arts gives a unique approach to communication, Dawson encourages students to participate in a variety of art classes.

Dawson has an exceptionally rich arts program, and in Upper School, students can choose from 20 different arts classes. Performing arts options include choir, the Lost Keys a capella group, instrumental ensembles, dance, improv, and theater; visual arts options include ceramics, digital art, digital photography, drawing & painting, jewelry making, photography, print making, sculpture, and woodworking.

Art is the ultimate example of experiential education: Done right, it requires the engagement of your heart and soul, your body and mind. We have high expectations of our arts students, and are impressed again and again at how they not only meet, but exceed them.
