Carlsbad Caverns 3/24

After packing up on our final morning at the Grand Adobe, we headed back to Carlsbad Caverns for a morning of service learning. In the Big Room, we had the opportunity to "pick lint," which meant using paint brushes to gently clean the lint that gathers on the formations as a result of all the human visitors traversing in this delicate environment. If the lint is left for too long, it will stain the formations themselves. It was quite shocking to see just how much lint is gathered on the formations and was quite calming and satisfying to clean up as a group. Past groups of cleaners have gathered up to 53 pounds of lint over a week of cleaning time! After helping out, we then headed back to El Paso to await our return flight home. It has been a wonderful week full of caves for our group!
