How to Apply
The following describes the DSI Application process.

* currently in grade 6 or 7
* a full-time student at a public middle school in Boulder County and surrounding areas

HOW TO COMPLETE THE DSI APPLICATION
There are two options for completing the Dawson Summer Initiative (DSI) application:
1) You may download and print the PDF at right.
2) You may complete and submit the application online as outlined below.
You may "mix-and-match" how you complete the application, thereby having some online forms and some completed with pen-and-paper.
All of the forms do NOT need to be sent to DSI at the same time. Once you submit the Parent/Guardian Information form, we will create an admission folder for an applicant and add materials to that folder as they are received.
APPLICATION TIMELINE
* Applications for Dawson Summer Initiative 2023 will be accepted through Thursday, February 2, 2023.
* Please note: All applications will be read at the same time; this is NOT a first-come, first-served process.
* You may check application status on our Parent Portal and we will notify you when the application is complete.
* Applicants will be notified about admission decisions by Friday, March 3, 2023.
PLEASE NOTE:
* Please ask your child's teachers, counselors, and principals to complete recommendations well in advance of the application deadline. A safe time frame would be at least three weeks in advance.
* We are only able to process complete applications received on or before February 2, 2023. Anything received after that deadline will not be able to be considered.

A complete application requires the following components (see links to the right):

* Parent/Guardian Contract & Responses
* Parent/Guardian Contract & Responses
- Confirmation of Understanding and Confidentiality Statement
- Parent Responses (two questions)
* Student Essays (three questions)
* TWO Teacher Recommendations (current math, English, science, social studies)
* Principal/Guidance Counselor Form (includes current report card, attendance, and conduct)

Online: If the application is completed online, you will find links to the various components listed in the menu at right. For the Recommendations, you may direct a teacher and counselor/principal to the site, or to the link itself. If completed online, these Recommendations will be submitted directly by the school to Dawson Summer Initiative.

o Please ask your recommending teacher to complete this form by the middle of January, well in advance of the February 2, 2023 deadline.
o Please do not submit this form to your teacher unless you are fully committed to applying to DSI.
o The teacher must be a current instructor in an academic subject (math, science, English, social studies)

For Summer 2023, our theme is Navigating Our Future: Solving Challenges Creatively. Global and local challenges are becoming increasingly more complex owing to their interconnectedness and scope. How can we cooperate creatively (locally, nationally, and internationally) to solve our challenges going forward?
How can we work together across national boundaries, differences in ideology, and cultural identities to create environments where we can use technology, local and international experts, and novel approaches to tackle our complex environment? Please join us for a collaborative exploration in this exciting endeavor to positively impact our world.
