Dear Members of the Alexander Dawson School Community,
We could not be more pleased to announce the appointment of Jonathan Schoenwald as our new Head of School at the Dawson School, effective July 1, 2026.
The Search Committee sought to find a leader with vision and a demonstrated track record of successful execution to continue our school’s efforts to best prepare our students for a changing world. After a comprehensive search process, careful consideration, and overwhelming favorable survey responses from his on-campus visit, we selected Jonathan for his vision, outstanding leadership, commitment to educational excellence, and deep alignment with Dawson’s mission and values.
Jonathan brings a wealth of experience to this role, most recently serving as Assistant Head of School and Upper School Principal at Gulliver Preparatory School, an independent pre-K through 12 school in the Miami area that offers an integrated and comprehensive college preparatory program. Jonathan’s leadership at Gulliver has been uniformly praised, among many other impressive qualities, for his integrity, exceptional communication skills, high academic standards, and tireless work ethic.
Under Jonathan’s leadership, Gulliver added signature programs offering students immersive, real-world, four-year curricula in subjects such as International Business and Entrepreneurship, Biomedical Sciences, Engineering and Digital Mass Media, offered merit scholarships to attract high-performing students, and created exclusive opportunities only its students could access through university partnerships and internships, enabling students to look forward to exciting and memorable experiences.
In his new role, Jonathan will be instrumental in taking Dawson to the next level of excellence, fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment, and building upon our tradition of academic distinction. Dawson’s strong community excites Jonathan, and he is eager to partner with students, faculty, and staff. The Board is grateful for Dawson's dedicated faculty and staff and their unwavering professionalism, passion, and contributions to our shared mission.
I want to extend our deepest appreciation to the Search Committee, the School Board, Debbie Reed and Tom Hudnut of RG175, and to the entire Dawson community, all of whom worked diligently and tirelessly to find an exceptional person to head our school, for their wholehearted engagement and invaluable help in carrying out this process.
Jonathan will succeed George Moore next summer. We look forward to celebrating George in the remaining months of this academic year and thank him for establishing such a strong foundation at Dawson. The School Board is in the process of creating a transition team to ensure that the change in leadership is thoughtful and smooth. Please join the School Board of Trustees in warmly welcoming Jonathan Schoenwald to the Dawson community. We look forward to the vision, leadership, and dedication he will bring in the years ahead.
Sincerely,
Kimberley Johnston
Chairman of the School Board of Trustees
