New Orleans Winterim

3/21
On Tuesday, we had an action-packed day! We started the day by learning how to make beignets at the Southern Food and Beverage Museum. The hardest part of making the beignets was ensuring the oil was at the right temperature. We ended up making more than we could eat and in various shapes. We then had po'boys sandwiches for lunch before going to the jazz museum and shopping in the French market. Next, we saw a band and a show in Jackson square before heading back to the hotel to prepare for dinner and a show at the preservation hall. Preservation Hall is the oldest jazz venue in the city. The show was amazing! After the show, we go to chat with members of the band. Willy also got to play the legendary piano at the preservation hall!!! After that, we got some gelato and then headed to bed! After over 20,000 steps, we were ready for some sleep.

We partnered with Youth Rebuilding New Orleans to spend some time giving back to the city that we have been learning so much about. We helped paint the entryway and railings. We followed with lunch at a local corner store and took it to the city park for a picnic. We then had some free time to explore the French Quarter before heading to a concert and food truck rally in Lafayette Square. We got to see two local bands perform and sample some food trucks. We ended the night by going on a walking ghost tour.
