As we look ahead to the start of a new school year, we want to share an update on one of the most important responsibilities entrusted to the Alexander Dawson Foundation and the Alexander Dawson School Board of Trustees: the search for Dawson’s next Head of School. We are committed to leading a thorough, inclusive, and thoughtful process as we seek a leader who will build on our school’s strengths and guide Dawson into its next chapter.
Search Process Overview
The Alexander Dawson Foundation Board of Trustees, in collaboration with the School Board of Trustees, holds the responsibility and authority to hire the Head of School. In partnership with the experienced executive search team at RG175, the foundation trustees have been previewing applications ahead of the August 15 deadline. RG175 is carefully vetting each candidate and will compile a strong slate of finalists to present to the Search Committee. The search process timeline remains as follows:
Application Deadline: August 15, 2025
Semi-finalist Interviews: September 2025
Finalist Visits: October 2025
Head of School Appointment: November 2025
Head of School Start Date: July 1, 2026
Composition of the Search Committee
The Search Committee will include members of the Alexander Dawson Foundation Board of Trustees and the Head of School at the Alexander Dawson School at Rainbow Mountain. This committee will be responsible for selecting finalists, who will then be invited for on-campus interviews later this fall.
Campus Visits and Community Involvement
We anticipate that 2–4 finalists will be invited to campus for in-depth interviews. These visits will be an opportunity for our community to engage directly with the candidates and provide input to the Search Committee.
During each campus visit, candidates will meet with a range of stakeholder groups. We are referring to these sessions as Campus Visit Groups.
Planned Campus Visit Groups include:
Head of School: George Moore will meet one-on-one with each candidate.
Leadership Team Members and the Director of Athletics
Academic Leadership: This group includes the Division Heads, Deans, and College Counselors.
Faculty Leadership: A group of 5–7 faculty leaders across all three divisions, appointed by George Moore.
Students: A group of 5–7 students in Grades 7–12, recommended by the Deans and Division Directors.
Parents: All parents will be invited to attend open sessions with the candidates and will have the opportunity to submit feedback via an anonymous platform.
Faculty and Staff: All employees will be invited to attend open sessions with the candidates and will have the opportunity to submit feedback via an anonymous platform.
School Board of Trustees: Board members will meet with finalists.
Search Committee: This group will hold a final meeting with each candidate at the conclusion of their campus visit.
Candidate Pool
We are encouraged by the depth and quality of the candidate pool. As of early August, we have received more than 40 applications. Dawson’s strong reputation and idyllic location are drawing top talent, including many highly qualified and experienced school leaders.
We are energized by the progress of the search and remain committed to keeping our community informed as the process continues. Thank you for your partnership and support as we work together to secure the future leadership of our school.
Warm regards,
Kimberley Johnston
